The Stuttering (2026)

the film we're seeing today - a rant

The purpose of struggle sessions in China, Stalinist trials in the Soviet Union, attack therapy at American universities, the extraordinary conferences in German teacher seminaries and all other gatherings, where slander against an individual is invited and his rebuttals are prohibited, is to demonstrate that civility is an illusion that cannot be trusted, so as to make people mistrustful of each other and hence lessen their ability to resist the dictates of the central government.

Oddly enough, you achieve the same end result no matter whether people think their neighbour spies for the NKVD or prays to the devil.

People will do anything to defend their power, yet power shifts, hence horrible things happen.

A hitman, whose motive is money, is less disconcerting than the character Christopher Lee portrays in The Man with the Golden Gun, yet even that character isn't that disconcerting, as long as he sticks to his contracts and there's a rationale for them, because people know what they have to do to stay out of trouble, as long as there's a reason for the trouble.

And even in the rare case where that's not true, where fate sets people against each other and trouble cannot be avoided, there's consolation in the fact that it can't, that this is just the way the world is, like with dying, that sooner or later everybody has to face it, acknowledging that we've known that we were lucky all along.

Living among crazies, though, is a scary thought. And believing in evil spirits is even worse.

No matter the obscenity, you'll always find a power motive behind it, which is precisely why Ye stood out the way he did. The Church created the institution of nobility with its privileges and duties, because it wanted partners for the civilisation of Europe. The motive remains, though civilisation may not be the right word, but the means in an age of universal rights must necessarily be altered. So, would powers with aspirations of shaping global society use any suitable means to create a global class of partners? Yes, of course. But if the cohesion of that class depended on being shunned by the rest of humanity for what its members are, it couldn't be entrusted with design tasks, that is, comparing it to the military, it could only rise to the level of major, maybe exceptionally to colonel, but never to general.

One may take the Jews as a historic example. The Rothschilds have risen to the level of colonel, and I'm writing this on Meyer Amschel Rothschild's 282nd birthday. Ironically, proving my point, Jacob Rothschild was once rebuffed on Israeli television for his liberal vision for Israel, i.e. Jews cannot even rise to general among themselves, which is to say that Israel's fate is in other hands as is the fate of Jews in general.

Coming back to the believe in evil spirits though. The basis for all superstition is mirroring: The world shares your stance: be friendly, it's friendly, be hostile, it's hostile, vow justice, so will it. The latter is an example of a prayer for grace, the grace of living a just life, which entails the mirroring prayer, that injustice should be punished, which it often is, hence the saying Little sins are punished immediately (Kleine Sünden bestraft der liebe Gott sofort). Adjacent to this prayer is the world commenting on you: Do something embarrassing and the world will find a way to mock you for it, alluded to in José Régio's O principe com orelhas de burro (Der Prinz mit den Eselsohren).

And extrapolating this course, we arrive at superstition: Follow arbitrary rules and so will the world. This is based on a vow as well, but this vow is not connected to a prayer for grace, because there is none in this state of being, whereas recognising a just course of action is an example of grace, as is recognising your shortcomings.

Yet, the mirroring occurs, which is why the I Ching works - I'll mention again 11 Harrowhouse, Charles Grodin's magnum opus, which you should see to understand Tucker Carlson better and also because in the first few seconds there is a scene which Grodin introduces with the words I always believed that love ones should travel separately. and then Candice Bergen reads the lines from the I Ching in her sports car, takes fright, steers the car off the road and onto a farm yard while another car is headed straight at her, only to drive the car onto the road at the other end of the yard again, which is the ultimate truth about the I Ching.

And now consider the belief in evil spirits: Your readiness to accept them will manifest them in your mind as illusions and impulses. And if you haven't already stuttered before, being traumatised and paranoid about everyone, you'll start to stutter now and more.

While I like to see Lindsey Graham sweat, while he states that he's doling out divine justice, I find no pleasure in observing the current stuttering epidemic. Alex Jones sure isn't, the guy who does the last hour of his Sunday show for him sure is. Am I supposed to call this an enlightenment?
