Puppets and people
NATURA HOC DEBUIT UNI
A man becomes a tyrant out of insolence,
He climbs and climbs, until all people call him great,
He seems upon the summit, and God flings him thence;
Yet an ambitious man may lift up a whole State,
And in his death be blessed, in his life fortunate.
And all men honour such; but should a man forget
The holy images, the Delphian Sibyl's trance,
And the world's navel-stone, and not be punished for it
And seem most fortunate, or even blessed perchance,
Why should we honour the Gods, or join the sacred dance?
He climbs and climbs, until all people call him great,
He seems upon the summit, and God flings him thence;
Teddy Roosevelt said one time that it's better to try and win glorious triumphs and victories even though you are checkered by failure and fate than to rank with those poor spirits that neither enjoy victory or defeat, because they lived in such a great twilight that they've never tried either one. So, rather than be a painter of the Brooklyn Bridge or work in the Lincoln Tunnel in New York City and suck all that carbon dioxide in every day and live in those ghettos, I decided to fly through the air and live in the sunlight and enjoy life as much as I could and that's just what I'm doing.Q.E.D.
Then again, it does not have to be insolence when there is an occasion to which one can live up to, an ideal that merits action on its behalf, as expressed rather loftily by the Rienzi overture.
Bei dieser gottbegnadeten Musik hatte ich als junger Mensch im Linzer Theater die Eingebung, daß es auch mir gelingen müsse, das deutsche Reich zu einen und groß zu machen.
Whether Hitler himself lived up to the occasion, rather than being insolent, is of little importance, he did understand however that the music was useful to that end with others.
And even more important is the question what kind of worldly believers the churches want: Men of humility and depth or insolent ones?
The latter are more easily controlled, and the former may lose their way despite their qualities. In the opera, Rienzi leads the city of Rome eventually into a conflict with the Holy Roman Empire that has little chance of doing it any good. So he is disposed of. Hitler's moves were of course from the beginning geared towards war.
But the question stands: What kind of contact person in politics or the economy do the churches want?
To me it looks as if they were fishing for imbeciles, whose insolence they are eager to bless, so that they may later enjoy their gratitude. The churches are serious in their charitable work, outside of it, however, they rather deal with puppets than with people.
I mean, there must be some reason, why the general public has come to believe that left wing political parties adhere most closely to Christian principles. So much so, that the German Antifa can openly state on their website that:
- demonstrations not guided by socialism can easily pick up right wing arguments,
- mixing with right wing activists is a danger for society at large and hence
- all non-socialist demonstrations have to be violently fought on the streets,
Had the churches invested anything in believers rooted in their belief, and I mean actually experiencing believing, this could not possibly have come about.
The world is filled with those who wish to steer their fellow human beings into one direction or the other and human beings are getting sick of it. Rightfully so, I think, if you can't talk to people on the same level that you want to be talked to, don't think that you have anything to say to them.
Well, here we are.
