She asks you to accompany her to her apartment, you decline and don't get a second chance. Then you seek to replicate the situation only to find that it was all in your mind.

It's not. Just insert another example of missed opportunity and see how interesting that would be.

No, we've come nowhere near the essence with that. It's about realising that you can be someone, that by conviction you can muster the alertness to represent an idea. It's about the thrill of the potential, the sudden emergence of your ideational nature. Few ideas can outshine the joy over being lifted to their rank.

And yes, other examples of this would be just as interesting.
