Living for an idol

Every place is owned by the life that lives in it, but the place that is consumed by those, who live for an idol. But how do they get caught by it?

The child looks up to the things he may learn, the youth dreams of taking possession of the earth, taking pride in his youth and what comes with it.

Since we hardly ever own something without having somehow managed to obtain it, it is not completely misguided to be proud of the things we possess, but both child and man tend to have better reason to be it than the youth, since he's the right age to be bought, caught by his pride to possess something that was given to him with the express purpose to make him seek to obtain more pride conferring tokens from the same source.

Obviously, it is wiser to love gifts than to be proud of them. And it is wiser to seek to come into love than pride as well, for pride follows love, but love my part ways with pride at any point: Who doesn't want to do the works he loves?, but what work would be so great that it would forbid one to love the next?

Anyway, many youths are hooked by idols, the promise of maneuvering themselves into a position, in which they'll always have better provisions. It isn't easy to deal with this kind of extortion, for extortion it is, when it's not an offer amongst many, but the one way everybody's supposed to take, which leaves you with a very small part of the world, if you don't, but if you know that the world that is offered to you is a wasteland in which your love will never take root and bear fruit, you'll still reject it. The greedy, on the other hand, are inherently foolish. It is a difficult task to find one's way, and in these times in particular, many circumstances need to be studied, and still there are abysses wherever one turns. But then again: All life prays that it may continue to exist in its place.
