The US military: Caught in a divergent world ruled by ideas of convergence.

For once I'll simply describe the situation of the US military in general terms without any thought of going any further from there.

Increasing efficiency of production leads to a desire to service bigger markets and those in turn lead to a rising dependency on investment, which leads to specialisation and specialisation leads to economic dependencies and finally those lead to a compliant disposition. But efficiency wouldn't be efficiency, if it wouldn't reduce the overall amount of work needed. So, on the one hand we have highly efficient, dependent and compliant societies and on the other inefficient, independent and militant ones.

Whenever the US military is sent into the latter part of the world, it will install either a tyrant or a windbag, for every social order arises out of military strength and in that part of the world it's contested. But since the dependence of the developed world has reached such a level that replacing the social order has become inconceivable, no thought is given by its citizens to the military foundations of societies, and hence the US military is sent around the globe in order to remove obstacles to the natural flow of world harmonisation, ostensibly, in any case never assuming the duties of a colonial administration. In reality the US military is used to take sides in local conflicts and its effect on the local population is to train it and make it even more militant.
